Biography

Dr. Aiden Abidov, MD, PhD is a Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Section Chief, Cardiology at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, Detroit, MI.

Prior to joining the WSU SOM faculty, Dr. Abidov was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Radiology, Medical Director of Cardiovascular Imaging/Echo Lab, and Associate Chief of the Section of Cardiology at the University of Arizona, Tucson. In 2009, Dr. Abidov received the C. Leonard Pfeiffer Endowed Chair in Cardiology from the Sarver Heart Center, Tucson, AZ.

Dr. Abidov is a well-known, advanced cardiovascular imaging specialist, certified in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiovascular CTA and MRI, and peripheral vascular ultrasound.

Dr. Abidov is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American Heart Association (FAHA), and the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). He is a founding member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computer Tomography and an active member of the AHA Clinical Cardiology Council.

Dr. Abidov has authored multiple papers in the field of cardiovascular imaging, which have been published in leading medical Journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Circulation, and The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, as well as many others. He is an editorial board member of The Journal of Nuclear Cardiology and The Echocardiography Journal, and a reviewer for multiple general cardiology and cardiac imaging journals, including JACC and the AHA journals (Circulation and Circulation Imaging).

Dr. Abidov leads multiple funded research and investigator-initiated clinical projects targeting the early diagnosis, screening and outcomes of cardiovascular disorders and the effective utilization of advanced cardiovascular imaging. Recently, Dr. Abidov and his colleagues, Drs. Marcus and Oliva, published a book titled “Cardiac MRI in the Diagnosis, Management and Prognosis of ARVC”.

Dr. Abidov maintains a busy clinical practice, seeing patients in all areas of general cardiology. He has trained multiple cardiology fellows and medical residents who have successfully passed their certification boards and currently practice all over the United States.
