Research

Investigating the molecular mechanisms of smooth muscle phenotypic modulation in vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and aneurysms using tissue culture cells and transgenic/knockout mouse models. Particular interests include transcriptional regulation and the role of SM22, an actin binding cytoskeleton protein in smooth muscle cell phenotypic modulation in response to injury signals. Her lab has been using comprehensive cellular, molecular and genetic approaches to address these issues. Understanding the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular development is critical for developing therapeutic strategies for human vascular diseases.
